ROYAL COLLEGE OF MIDWIVES

 RCM Logo

A proactive organisation, the Royal College of Midwives is positive about employing disabled people and uses the Disability Symbol. Established in 1887, the RCM’s future depends on the diversity of its 65 staff and 37,000 members.

The RCM is governed by an elected Council of practising midwives, who are responsible for setting the organisation’s strategic direction for staff. Each of the four UK countries – Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England – have their own RCM Board providing education, research and employment relations services.

Where an employee becomes incapable of carrying out their duties because of a disability, the RCM will take all reasonable action necessary to support the employee’s continued employment.

We have a proactive disability and employment policy. The employees’s line manager, in consultation with the Human Resources Manager, will be responsible for discussing the situation with the employee and agreeing with them to seek the advice and guidance of the RCM’s Occupational Health Specialist.

The RCM will also seek specialist advice through the Employment Service Access to Work scheme and Disability Advisers.
